Hacker Attack Disrupts Operations at Bridgestone

Japanese corporation Bridgestone—one of the world’s largest tire manufacturers—has reported a cyberattack that disrupted operations at several of its manufacturing plants in North America.

Scope of the Attack

The incident affected Bridgestone Americas (BSA), the company’s North American subsidiary. BSA operates 50 manufacturing plants with more than 55,000 employees, accounting for roughly 43% of Bridgestone Corporation’s global workforce.

The cyberattack was first reported on September 2, 2025, when disruptions were confirmed at two BSA plants in Aiken County, South Carolina. The following day, Canadian media reported similar issues at a production facility in Joliette, Quebec.

Company Response

Bridgestone confirmed that an investigation is underway.

“Bridgestone Americas continues to investigate a limited cyber incident that has affected some of our manufacturing plants,” the company said in a statement. “Our team of specialists responded quickly and contained the issue in accordance with established protocols. Although the investigation is still ongoing, we are confident that the incident was contained at an early stage. We do not believe any customer data or interfaces were compromised.”

The company added that employees are working around the clock to reduce the attack’s impact and minimize supply chain disruptions that could lead to product shortages.

Attribution and Context

As of now, no hacker group has claimed responsibility for the attack on Bridgestone.

Notably, the incident occurred almost simultaneously with a breach at Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), which affected the automaker’s production and retail operations. Responsibility for that attack was claimed by members of the hacker groups Scattered Spider, LAPSUS$, and Shiny Hunters, who announced they had merged under the name Scattered LAPSUS$ Hunters. In their statement, the group also threatened the UK’s National Crime Agency and vowed targeted attacks against Vodafone UK.
